We are a dynamic, positive congregation that seeks to make disciples of Jesus Christ by proclaiming the good news of God's grace and thus seeking the fulfillment of God's reign and realm in the world. We are a small, warm family of believers who welcome you to join our faith family and begin to experience God's grace in your life.
We at First United Methodist Church are deeply rooted in the Christian tradition with a heritage of faith in experiencing both a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a communal expression of compassion for others. All of this is based on the foundational belief in the gift of prayer that sustains us as individuals and as a church. We seek to know God's will and express that will in disciplined lives of faith: worship, Bible study, financial giving, talents, time and service.
Rethink Church
One need only learn the most basic history of the church to realize that across the centuries God has called upon leaders to rethink what it means to be the church in ministry with the changing world around us. Martin Luther boldly asked his generation to rethink church, as did John and Charles Wesley in the 18th century. Persons like Billy Graham and our own Harry Denman at the midpoint of the 20th century challenged us to do the same in regard to offering and accepting a personal relationship with Jesus. In a variety of different ways with different levels of influence, preachers like William Sloane Coffin in the 70s and Bill Hybels in the 1980s offered their own versions of how we might rethink church to reach those outside the walls of the church .
10thousanddoors.org is a relevant a place that invites the world to rethink church. A place to see church not as a building, but thousands of doors. Each of them opening up to a different concept or experience of church. So that whoever knocks might find a journey to call their own. Would you come?
